Students on research Masters courses will be able to access financial support as part of a major expansion of postgraduate funding in Scotland.

Tuition fee loans of up to £5500 and living cost loan support of up to £4500 will be made available to Scottish postgraduate students on research Masters courses from the coming academic year.
This expands on support previously made available to students on taught and distance learning postgraduate courses.

European Union students will be eligible for the tuition fee element of the funding.

Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson said: “I welcome this move by the Scottish Government, which will ensure that students can access all types of Masters study without financial barriers.

“Scotland is renowned across the world for our fine higher education institutions. It’s important that we ensure access to their postgraduate courses is based on academic ability rather than the ability to pay.

“This new funding will create opportunities for students from Falkirk district and across Scotland, while also helping to keep attract some of the finest minds from the EU to our universities post-Brexit.”
