Many more Scottish students will get the chance to broaden their academic and personal experiences by studying overseas this year.

Up to £130,000 will be available through the Saltire Scholarship Outward Mobility Fund in 2012/13 to universities, colleges and student associations as part of a drive to increase the options available for students based in Scotland.

Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson said in welcoming this fantastic opportunity:
“This is a great opportunity for students to be able to study abroad and I want to see as many of our local students as possible enhance the skills that employers require in an increasing global marketplace.

“Studying abroad offers many opportunities, be they learning new cultures, improving language skills or developing a global perspective. These and other benefits are well recognised by businesses.

“This fund will build upon the opportunities already available to study overseas and complements the existing Saltire Scholarships programme which is offered to incoming students to ensure Scotland remains at the heart of student mobility.

“I do hope that many of my young constituents would be able to see the advantages that studying abroad can bring to their future careers and would urge them to look into this scheme.”
