Falkirk Council will receive £244,000 from the Scottish Government to help fund road repairs after the severe winter.

It was announced in April that an extra £10million would be allocated to Scotland’s 32 local authorities to help cover the cost of unexpected additional road maintenance brought on by the harsh conditions. Councils were told this week what share of the money they will receive.

Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson said: “This year’s harsh winter weather has taken its toll on our roads, causing much frustration for drivers, so news of this windfall is most welcome.

“Falkirk’s SNP administration has already allocated an additional £500,000 for road maintenance in the 2018-19 budget, so hopefully all of this much-needed extra funding will go a long way towards improving our road network across the district after years of neglect under the previous administration.”
