The Scottish Government has delivered 1,882 affordable homes in Falkirk district, including 1,446 for social rent, since the SNP came to power in 2007, the latest figures show.

Across Scotland, more than 87,000 affordable homes, including nearly 60,000 for social rent, have been delivered during that time.

Welcoming the figures, Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson said: “The SNP Government is working hard to provide safe, warm and affordable homes for everybody as part of our commitment to building a fairer country.

“We’re on course to deliver at least 50,000 new affordable homes across Scotland during the current five-year parliament term and I’m delighted that thousands of people in Falkirk district have already benefited from our ambitious housing policies.

“On top of that, this major house-building drive has also supported between 10,000 and 12,000 jobs a year in the construction and related industries in Scotland.

“The SNP Government’s progress in providing more homes for social rent, including more than 12,000 council homes since 2007, is in stark contrast with Labour’s last term of office in Scotland, when they completed just six council homes.

“Meanwhile, the number of social rented properties delivered in Scotland per head of population between 2014 and 2018 was more than five times bigger than what the UK Government delivered in England.”
