Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson has welcomed the news that Ineos plant in Grangemouth is to start operating following agreement between Ineos and the workforce.

In welcoming the news Mr Matheson said:

“This will come as a relief to the workforce, their families and also those who work in support services across the local area, many of whom are constituents.

“ I would like to pay particular tribute to those who work at the plant who have taken difficult decisions in respect of their pay for the future of the Grangemouth plant, their decision is to be applauded.

“Thanks must also go to the Scottish Government, for the role that it took to support the negotiations and for their refusal to accept that the plant had shut down permanently.

“It’s been a difficult time for the workforce and it’s important that we move forward with a long term future for the plant”
