Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson has welcomed new figures showing the Scottish Government has exceeded target on the number of Modern Apprentice starts.

25,247 Modern Apprentices started training in 2014/15 and the figures released by Skills Development Scotland today also confirm that more than 101,000 people in Scotland have started an MA in the last four years.
Locally, there were 899 new starts across the Falkirk area in 2014/15 with over 1,000 modern apprentices in training as of March this year.

Welcoming this, Michael Matheson MSP said:

“These figures again highlight the importance of Modern Apprentices to the Scottish economy. 101,000 new starts in this parliamentary term alone is a remarkable achievement.

“I have seen first-hand the benefits that modern apprenticeships give to people in my constituency. It is a positive and rewarding experience for those who take part and I am delighted at the success it is having across Scotland.”
